Over 10 fruitful years in Formula One™, our partnerships with Red Bull Racing and Renault DP World F1® Team taught us vital lessons about performance engineering, hybrid technology, electrification, and innovation of the highest order.
A pioneering partnership
We made our foray into Formula 1™ in 2011 as a commercial sponsor of Red Bull Racing — and immediately felt at home. A year later we become the title sponsor of the team, establishing one of the most successful sponsorships in the history of the sport. But we wanted more.
Having made our name in and around the paddock, we aimed to deepen our involvement with race engineering.
INFINITI innovations on track
Following the introduction of hybrid powertrains to the sport, we harnessed our extensive experience in hybrid performance as a technical partner of Renault DP World F1® Team. From 2016, we began co-developing the team’s Energy Recovery System (ERS) — one of the most innovative and sophisticated technologies in motorsport.
Harnessing hybrid power
Our Energy Recovery System harnessed power that was normally lost. By harvesting heat and kinetic energy, and storing it in a battery, it gave the Renault DP World F1® Team car a shot of added power on demand. With the same combination of performance and efficiency, our Direct Response Hybrid technology gave extra power to our road cars, too.
The five-year technical collaboration with Renault DP World F1® Team was an incredible success. Not only did we create a lasting strategic and technical partnership, but both companies raced 100 Formula 1™ grands prix together, achieving a total of 459 championship points and three coveted places on the podium.
All eyes ahead
Our success doesn’t stop on the track; we aim to keep moving forward. Following an illustrious decade in F1™, we decided 2021 was the right moment to concentrate our resources, and the experience gained from Formula 1™, on the research and development of new technologies and future powertrains — focusing INFINITI engineering expertise on the road.
